Hi, my son is going backpacking around to Europe for 6 months. I want to buy him a gift that doesn't take up too much space and will be useful to him. Any ideas what a 21 year old would want or need during their travels?

does he have an ipod? I had one on my trrip around Europe and loved it so i think it would be a great gift.

a mini travel first aid kit - includes band aids, disinfectant, Panadol and bandages etc. I dont want to worry you, but if he's having fun he'll need at least one of these things for his trip!

I know this sounds like a weird gift for a 21 year old man... but how about little travel pots of skincare and lip balms.

When I went travelling, the men all had the worst skin and chapped dry lips. It wouldn't occur to them to go into a pharmacy and pick up some lip balm and moisturiser.

Really - their heals were cracked, their lips were so rough and the skin on their face and bodies were often flaky.

Your son may think it's an unusual gift... but he'll find it very useful on his travels - not that he'll admit it!

young men have the worst skin when they backpack. sometimes their lips are peeling off and they have dry bits on their faces. why can't they just go and buy some skincare products?
