The attic was only opened on special occasions,
letting ripe wood smells permeate the house. The first occasion was
Christmas, when regular access to the freezer was required. The second was
in the summer and the third was in the winter.

In summer and winter you needed blankets. There were stacks of them. The
white and yellow ones were for summer and the dark grey ones for winter. The
summer blankets had belonged to great grandma Svea and the dark ones had
come from Norway, where great granddad David had fought in the war. They
were heavy and warm and spoke of memories.

They saved us from frostbites when our fingers had turned to icicles after
long afternoons of snowball-fighting. They provided a soft padding from
pebbles and twigs when we were sun bating. It was always an adventure when
we were sent up into the attic to fetch the blankets. Each time we would
find and open yet another dusty box and let out its forgotten memories. The
Isak Penguin blanket has been made in honour to Inger & Olle and in memory
of Svea & David.

Product Information

We are very proud of our blankets, a traditional Scandinavian product to
shield out the cold, or just to snuggle under on a rainy day. This means that you get a soft, comfortable and
airy blanket that is robust enough to last and remain comfy and functional
for many years. Wool is a natural product with unique properties; it
insulates well, it is environmentally friendly, it can absorb moisture
without loosing its ability to insulate, it is naturally flame retardant
and it is dirt repellent. These blankets are made in perfect harmony with
nature. Enjoy!

Size: 135cm x 100cm.

There are a growing number of websites that cater for babies and children. While it gives shoppers a greater choice of gifts, it can be quite daunting to pinpoint a gift for very specific age groups - such as buying presents for girls and boys under 12.

Over the next few weeks, we'll be doing an overview of the latest gift ideas for boys and girls under 12 ..... but broken down into specific genders and age groups - to make it easier for you!

Let's start off with boys aged 0-2 years.

1. First is Pitta Patta. Their gentle range of organic skincare is so natural it's almost good enough to eat. It was developed by a naturopath - and mother - for her son. A moisturising cream or massage oil from the 'Welcome to the World' range for newborns is a great gift for a little baby boy.

2. Little boys never get tired of building blocks, wooden trains and trucks. The UK's After Noah has a large range of quality children's gifts... inlcuding a good selection of wooden toys such as this carpenters tool belt.

3. To rug up for the cooler weather, these cute Scottish cashmere baby Inca hats from Brora are charming. Brora designs give classic Scottish cashmere a contemporary twist... and their range includes a wide range of unique patterns and colours. A great gifts for boys aged 0-2 years.

4. I don't know about you, but I can't resist a cute teddy bear... and most young children (and the young at heart) have a favourite teddy. This French Histoire d'Ours Ivory Mohair Bear would be a great addition to any baby boy's room. You can also buy him in brown and he comes in his own keepsake box.

5. KIDSEN has a range of original gifts from Scandinavian designers, as well as great toys and nursery items. It's based in the UK and you can't buy online. However you can can order over the phone and they will deliver to Australia. There are lots of choices for boys aged 0-2 years... including a very stylish Automoblox C9 yellow and wood car and a selction of brightly coloured Brio wooden cars.

All the gift websites above sell a a range of great presents for boys aged 0-2 years, so happy browsing.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.prezziexpress.com.au/gifts-for-baby-kids/2009/2/3/art-for-kids-just-avoid-the-scams.html"><rss:title>Art For Kids - Just Avoid The Scams</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.prezziexpress.com.au/gifts-for-baby-kids/2009/2/3/art-for-kids-just-avoid-the-scams.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject></dc:subject>

ART GIFTS FOR CHILDREN

I consider myself pretty clued up when it comes to spotting scams. So when I got scammed a few days ago, it was made even worse by the fact that I knew I was being scammed at the time, but did nothing about it!!

What happened you ask? Well a really nice French student knocked at the door selling 'orginal art'.

I knew they were just cheap Chinese rip-offs, made to look like original art. But I felt sorry for the poor girl. It was nearly 40 degrees outside and she was really sweet.

I'm such a sucker I know, but I actually like the 'painting' I bought, so I don't feel too bad.

It's a gift for my son, who loves cats.

Here's the offending painting. It will look quite nice once it's all framed up.

However, what would have been a smarter move would be buying REAL original artwork designed especially for children. A few of our forum users have mentioned online retailer Kindergallery, who sell artwork for children's rooms. They have a gorgeous selection of original paintings, limited edition prints and canvases from artists around the world.

I have 2 boys, so this original painting by artist Gav Barbey would go down a treat in their rooms.

Or if you don't want to splash out on an original piece of work, then this little owl print from Swedish designer Isabel Norman is a very cute option.

By the way - Owls are very trendy at the moment. House and Garden Magazine are having an 'owl trends' page in their March edition.

Giving art as a gift to children is an unusual choice, but I think it's well worth it. It may not be the most popular gift on the day, however as they grow older, they'll learn to appreciate the work and skill that's needed to create the picture.

Plus they may even be lucky enough to own a piece that has increased in value over the years!

My boys love the various paintings hanging on their walls... and I'm sure the fake Chinese cat painting from the French student will give them both a lot of enjoyment - they'll admire it while I kick myself for being so stupid. Oh well - c'est la vie.

But it's also important to not forget the parents at times like this.

So a quick suggestion - in addition to buying the baby a present, why not include a voucher for the parents. That voucher is from you to them for a night of babysitting. Believe me when I say the new parents will be glad to take you up on it a few weeks after the baby has been born.

It doesn't matter if it is a birthday present or a gift for any other reason, give a child a gift and they will be amazed, overjoyed and full of love and laughter.

Children are perhaps the easiest of all people to buy a present for. It doesn't matter what the present is, if you make sure it's wrapped up in beautifully coloured paper, with lots of ribbons and bows, they will think all their Christmases have come at once.

Have you ever seen a child's face light up when you give them a surprise present? It's one of the rare joys in the world. Just like it's wonderful to receive an unexpected present yourself, or a letter you weren't expecting to get, that's exactly what it's like being a child.

But what present do you buy for the child?

Well, ultimately it has to be suitable for the age of the child, as well as safe (I mean some things should go without saying - but we'll say them anyway) - but then it is entirely up to you, and what you think the child will like. Of course the younger the child, the more you are going to have to help them play with it, or put it on them, or do something with them, but isn't that half the fun? Helping a child to play, to learn, to grow, to appreciate new things and new experiences. And what better gift is there than "things" that allow that to happen.
