I don't want to buy half the presents I do - i feel obliged to - nephews I never see, friends' boyfriends I don't like. I wish I could just say no. I never spend much on these presents - usually just nip into Big W or something and buy what's on sale.

I bought a baby present for my ex's new baby. he was having an affair with this woman when we were still together and told me about it when the other woman got pregnant.

I did it to save my dignity and to look as though I had moved on... but it was soooooooo painful.

I just bought some little baby clothes as a gift.

i had to buy a leaving present for one of the teachers in my daughter's school (on behalf of the whole class).

The thing is, she was a terrible teacher and no-one really like her. She was bad tempered with the kids and rude to the parents. She was leaving teaching altogether.

I had $100 for the gift... so i ended up buying a big colourful ceramic fruit bowl at a 50% off sale (it was $55) and gave the rest to the red cross. I thought it was a waste spending the money on someone that grumpy.

I never told anyone what I did.
